We look back at the east coast publication ‘Porn Stars’ by re-publishing all the issues published in 1982.
These issues include interviews with Henri Pachard, Jamie Gillis, Kandi Barbour and Anna Ventura, features on films such as Centerfold Fever and Roommates, and pictorals with Lisa DeLeeuw, Jeanne Silver, Joanna Storm, and much more.
Fully digitized copies of each 1982 magazine can be found in the article below. You can find The Rialto Report’s growing collection of digitized resources by choosing Library in our site menu.

‘Porn Stars’: The Complete 1982 Issues
‘Porn Stars’ first appeared in mid 1980. It only lasted for four issues before undergoing a name change and becoming ‘Skin Flicks’. ‘Skin Flicks’ was even more short-lived and lasted only two months before it was renamed ‘Starlet.’ ‘Starlet’ lasted for four issues, before reverting to the magazine’s original name, ‘Porn Stars’, once again.
The full story of the early years is told through the memories of those who were responsible for the magazine in an earlier feature in The Rialto Report – two of the magazine’s editors, Richard Milner and Manny Neuhaus.
By 1982, ‘Porn Stars’ was an established name on the newsstands, and one of the best magazines covering the adult film scene. The crew behind the scenes consisted of many familiar faces from another legendary sex publication, Al Goldstein’s Screw magazine, including Art Director, Yossarian, and Contributing Editors, Richard Jaccoma and Norman Jackson.

I’ve seen it said here before – but I’ll say it again. You’re doing God’s work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Cristina!
The library section on this website is now emerging as the most comprehensive resource ever available on the history golden age adult.
Together with the podcasts, interviews, and investigative journalism, this is a fine fine resource.
(Plus no ads! How is that possible….!?!?)
You guys come up with stuff that I completely forgot about
❤️
So pleased you find it valuable Geoff!
Hot, hot hot! Never heard of this fine mag until now. Thanky. Off topic alert-I am so hoping that Katie Hill will go into adult entertainment. She is smoking and her aide or assistant is so insanely hot…please get naked!
Sterling work, RR!
Thanks as always JWP!
There is some good reading in these pages, and the pictures are not bad, either.
The interviews are what stand out for me. They try to go beyond the image of the performers/actors. Jamie Gillis gives some memorably ambivalent comments about the nature of the porn business. His story about meeting members of the Women Against Pornography group is quite funny. John Leslie talks about painting watercolors and growing a garden in his free time. A young Lisa Deleeuw talks about randomly stumbling into the world of adult films but not being changed by it.
There are some other intriguing pieces in Porn Stars. One of the articles in No. 2 references John Holmes being arrested for his connection with some killings. In a section of an article about women leaving adult films, Leslie Bovee (a favorite from the 1970s era) discusses her disillusionment with the porn business and her reluctance to bring up her career in it with other people. Guess I should not hope for an interview with her any time soon.
Overall, like all of these adult film magazines on the site, they are a snapshot of a particular moment in time. Thank you, Rialto Report, for giving me a chance to experience it a little.
Is The Rialto Report creating an archive? Seeing all of this digitized material on the site and the many pieces of information referenced in the articles, I am curious about what is being done with it all that has been collected.
I have another question: Has The Rialto Report ever considered examining the adult industries that developed in Europe in the 1970s and ’80s? France produced some memorable films and stars and had a very distinct style. Italy had a vibrant industry for a long time, as well. Being able to understand French, I have read and watched separate interviews with several French porn figures, including Alban Ceray, Brigitte Lahaie and Gerard Kikoine. So far I have not found anything equivalent to what you do.
