We continue our digitization project by looking at the west coast film magazine Adam Film World – and this time reviewing the issues published in 1980.
These issues include interviews with people such as Candida Royalle, Sandi Foxxe, and Clair Dia, articles about Claudia Jennings, Tina Russell, and adult film awards, and features on movies such as Mystique, The Ecstasy Girls, Talk Dirty To Me, Easy, and much more…
You can find The Rialto Report‘s growing library of digitized resources by clicking ‘Library’ in the menu on the left side of our site.
Check back for more digitized adult film magazine collections soon.
Click on the covers below to access the full magazines. Due to the fact that the magazines are scanned in high definition, allow a little time for each page to load. If you are viewing on a phone, view in landscape orientation.
Magazines are fully searchable; use the icon displayed in each magazine to search for key words.
Publications are being shared here purely for the purpose of research. They should not to be used or reproduced for any commercial gain.

Adam Film World: 1980
Adam magazine was launched by Knight Publishing Corp in the 1950s as an attempt to follow the success of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy magazine.
In 1966, Adam Film Quarterly was spun off from that magazine under the guidance of artist, cartoonist, science fiction author, and keen pornographer, William Rotsler. Its remit was to cover the growing sexploitation film industry, though it also covered mainstream films of a sexual nature and movie stars who appeared in racy films.
By 1969 it was renamed Adam Film World and issued on a sporadic basis for the next three decades, covering the increasingly hard-core American adult film industry, as well as European and Japanese sexually-oriented movies.
The publication is also notable for having issued the first movie awards for excellence in pornographic film, first with the X-Caliber Awards in 1975, then replacing them with the AFWG awards starting
In 1981 its sister publication, Adam Film World Guide, was launched, which in turn, spawned an annual Directory of Adult Films starting in 1984.

Before the internet this was how you found out what was coming out, Hustler had a few pages of film reviews but Adam Film World was the best! Just look at these covers and I see my favorite actresses, Annette Haven, Delicious Desiree Cousteau and the Amazing Jessie St James. Just looking at these makes me want to go out and rent their VHS tapes
This ‘digitization project’ has the capability of being a hugely important initiative with the creation of a research center in one location for scholars and researchers of film history.
I have heard of academics receiving grants over the years to create such an archive, but either nothing transpired, or it hasn’t been made available to non-academic people.
A big shout out to the fact that you have included OCR, allowing everyone to search for terms and save time.
Congratulations – and long may it continue.
EXCELLENT!!!! Very, very welcome.
With posts such as this, The Rialto Report is THE one-stop for all resources relating to the history of adult film.
I can only thank you for everything you do – all this, and with no ads either!! The non-commercial basis is one that I thought could never last, but have you considered take money so that yo can be rewarded for your work (and cover your costs!)
I’m intrigued by what other years and publications you plan on sharing? Can you share?
In the meantime, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
It’s funny how your mind can play tricks on you after all these years? I always remembered Jesie St James as kind of a second tier star behind power house porn stars like Seka, Vanessa Del Rio, Marilyn Chambers and Desiree Cousteau. It seemed like those stars were always on the magazine covers and on all the VHS box covers.
Well after looking at these old Adam Film magazines, it seems Jesie was every bit the star that the rest of them were, she is featured in all the big films in these magazines. I saw a recent photo of Jesie last year on the internet, she looked great at 66 or 67. I hope Rialto will do a feature on her like they did with Tiffany Clark.
Jesie St James…sigh…Oh Jesie, come chat…we’ve waited too long
A link to a recent photo of ofJesie/Jessie would be both Bigfoot-like and much appreciated.
I can’t find the link any more? It was last year, I won’t say her real name here ( it’s not hard to find out now, everything is on the internet) but she is an interior decorator now and was still very attractive. Still had the great cheekbones and smile, just a few more wrinkles
‘Jessie St James as kind of a second tier star…’
I remember her more as the MILF next door but without the exuberant “porn star” persona
Jesie was 27 years old when she entered the business in 1978, kind of young for a Milf? Seka was only 4 years younger but never played a Milf. I guess when you go back almost 40 years we all have different memories?
These are very sexy, much better than today’s stuff. Vintage porn is the best! Thanks for posting these! 🙂
This is huge. I remember trying to track down issues for a long time. Brings me back to the pre-internet early days of fanzines e.g. Batteries Not Included (where Rialto friend Richard Pacheco made cameos), Nora K, etc…where intelligent, thoughtful dialogue about the golden and silver ages was rare.
Excellent initiative, and a superb complement to the other content on this stellar site.
Can I put a word for Adult Cinema Review….. an interesting addition from around 1980?
There’s my reading material for the coming week in the office………………
VERY GOOD!! Always nuggets of information here!
very cool
Putting in another request for an interview with Dorothy Lemay, she appears in many of the films written about in Adam Film World
Another San Francisco based actress from that era was the cute girl with the braces Sonya Sommers. I guess she finally got her braces off.
Hi Anon, Sonya worked for a time with Dorothy Lemay at Alex Derenzy’s Screening room. TWO sexy girls!!!
Keep me informed, please. I used to have the directory for 1995 through 2001.
Great source for actresses filmography and information.
